Health insurance is a lot like the insurance people buy to protect against damage to their cars or homes. Health insurance is very important and helps protect you financially in the event that you have a serious illness/injury that requires extensive care.
Some people receive health insurance as a benefit through their jobs, while others have to buy it themselves. Since the passage of the Affordable Care Act, however, there is something referred to as “the employer mandate” which requires employers with more than 50 full-time employees to offer approved health care coverage to their employees.
With this in mind, answer the following questions:
Have you (or anyone you know) been able to get health insurance as a result of the ACA? Was it purchased through the health insurance marketplace or was it offered by an employer due to the mandate described above? I have insurance through my employer.
Research a health insurance plan (either yours or that of someone close to you) and identify its major components. What do you like about the health plan? What do you not like about the health plan?
